Join Explorer Scouts in Whitley Bay and District

Becoming an Explorer Scout in Whitley Bay and District you’ll stand on your own two feet and make memories that last a lifetime!

What is Explorers?

Explorers is for young people aged 14-18 years old.

Explorers is our fourth section of the Scouts. But don’t worry, you don’t need to have been a Beaver, Cub or Scout to be able to join Explorers – in fact many of our Explorer Scouts have never been a member of Scouts before.

What do Explorers get up to?

Being an Explorer is all about discovering the world on your own terms, getting stuck in and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are.

One week you could be kayaking, the next you could be brushing up on your photography skills, learning DIY, climbing or completing your DofE award expedition.

As an Explorer Scout you’ll:

  • Discover the world and take part in international experiences
  • Get outdoors
  • Be creative
  • Take part in action and adventure
  • Gain skills for life
  • Work as part of a team and learn leadership skills
  • Have fun!

As an Explorer Scout in Whitley Bay and District, you’ll also be able to work towards what’s called your top awards, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and your Chief Scout’s Platinum Award, Chief Scout’s Diamond Award and Queen’s Scout Award.

Our Explorer Scout Leaders are also qualified DofE instructors and assessors and supporting you to complete your DofE expeditions and work towards your DofE awards is a big part of our programme.
