Scouting is proud to offer young people amazing adventures and opportunities to learn skills for life and in Whitley Bay and District Scouts we have the equipment and expertise to offer our groups and young people access to a number of different types of adventurous activities.

Meet our Adventurous Activities team
Having been a Beaver, Cub and Scout at the 21st and 19th Whitley Bay, followed by an Explorer Scout, Elliot is now Scout Leader at the 19th Whitley Bay Scout Group. A keen climber and hillwalker, he takes an active role in supporting the DofE Award training programme for the Whitley Bay Explorer Scout Unit. He also has significant water activities expertise, through his professional role with the RNLI and previously as an RNLI lifeguard.
Nights Away Advisor
Jonathan has been in Scouting for many years, at the 5th Whitley Bay, as ADC Scouts, and then as District Commissioner of Whitley Bay and District Scouts for 6 years during which time he was involved in District sailing days and the District climbing club. Jonathan is currently Group Scout Leader (GSL) of the 17th Whitley Bay and has recently been appointed as Nights Away Advisor for Whitley Bay and District. Jonathan is a keen hillwalker and loves walking and camping in remote areas.
Peter started his Scouting journey as a Cub and a Scout at the 18th Whitley Bay, before going on to become a leader at the 8th Whitley Bay Scout Group a number of years ago. Having learnt to sail as a Scout, he has continued to volunteer as a sailing and rafting instructor for Whitley Bay and District Scouts, helping to run many of our sailing days and events.
Mike first got involved in Scouting as a Cub moving through the movement to become a Venture Scout. A keen hillwalker, climber and outdoor enthusiast, Mike went on to volunteer with the DofE units at Whitley Bay and Bedlington High Schools. He later joined Whitley Bay Explorer Scout unit as an adult helper, and now volunteers as a unit assistant and accredited DofE instructor, taking an active role in the group’s DofE and climbing programmes.
Having originally joined Scouting as a Scout in the 1960s, Stuart later continued Scouting in the army and later as Scout Leader at the 15th Whitley Bay Scout Group. He is a keen archer and in his current role as County Archery Assessor, helps to deliver many archery sessions and programmes for Whitley Bay and District alongside Paul.
Paul is a Cub Leader at the 6th Whitley Bay Scout Group and also a District Archery Instructor, helping to deliver many archery sessions and activities for Whitley Bay and District alongside Stuart. As well as archery, Paul also enjoys hill walking. He’s also a useful person to know for transport to and from activities, holding both a minibus and trailer driving license!
David first joined Scouting as a 12 year old Scout in Stoke on Trent continuing through to Venture Scouts and then becoming a Venture Scout leader in Leicestershire. David had a break from Scouting for a number of years, but got back involved when his son joined the 19th Whitley Bay Beavers 3 years ago, and he is now a Cub Pack Assistant with the group. A keen outdoor enthusiast, David enjoys solo camping and hiking, as well as scuba diving, sky diving, and kendo!
